See specialists whenever you need to — no permission required

Compare Your Options

Medicare Supplement vs. Medicare Advantage

Two very different approaches to coverage. Here's an honest look at what each one means for your day-to-day healthcare.

Medicare Supplement

Also known as "Medigap" — fills the gaps in Original Medicare

Doctors & HospitalsChoose any doctor or hospital that accepts Medicare patients. No network to worry about.
ReferralsSee specialists anytime without a referral from your primary care doctor.
Costs When You Use ServicesLow or no copays and coinsurance when you visit the doctor or hospital.
Travel CoverageCoverage goes with you across the U.S. Some plans cover foreign emergencies.
Rx, Dental & VisionNot included — you choose your own standalone Part D drug plan and dental/vision separately.

Medicare Advantage

Also called "Part C" — a bundled alternative to Original Medicare

Doctors & HospitalsTypically required to use doctors and hospitals within the plan's network.
ReferralsYou'll likely need referrals for specialists and may be limited to in-network providers.
Costs When You Use ServicesLow or no monthly premium, but you'll pay copays, coinsurance, and deductibles up to an annual limit.
Travel CoverageNon-emergency care usually requires in-network providers. Emergency care is typically covered when traveling.
Rx, Dental & VisionDrug coverage is included in most plans. Some plans also bundle dental and vision benefits.

Common Questions

What Kentucky Seniors Ask Us Most

We've heard hundreds of these questions — here are the answers that matter.

When can I enroll in a Medicare Supplement plan?
Your best window is the 6-month Medigap Open Enrollment Period, which starts the month you turn 65 and are enrolled in Medicare Part B. During this window, insurance companies can't deny you coverage or charge more due to health conditions. After this period, you may still apply, but could face medical underwriting.
What's the difference between Plan G and Plan N?
Plan G covers nearly all out-of-pocket costs after you meet the annual Part B deductible. Plan N has a lower monthly premium but includes small copays for some office and ER visits. For many seniors, the choice depends on how frequently you visit the doctor — Kayla can help you compare based on your specific situation.
Will I need a separate prescription drug plan?
Yes. Medicare Supplement plans don't include prescription drug coverage, so you'll want to enroll in a standalone Part D plan. This actually gives you more flexibility — you can shop drug plans each year based on the specific medications you take and your preferred pharmacy.
Can I keep my current doctors?
With a Medicare Supplement plan, you can see any doctor or specialist in the country who accepts Medicare patients. There are no network restrictions, no referrals needed, and no prior authorizations for Medicare-covered services.
I already have Medicare Advantage — can I switch?
You may be able to switch from Medicare Advantage to Original Medicare with a Supplement plan, but timing and health status matter. In some cases, you may need to pass medical underwriting. Kayla can walk you through your options and help you understand what's available based on your situation.
